Fountain Grass

Not the greatest of results, I brought four 1 gallon Fountain Grass plants in February 2010 and put two either side of the house. Im pretty sure the grass on the East side has died and the grass on the West side seems to be doing OK?

If they took off it would be great. A lot of what I do is trial and error and I am learning a lot in general.

Fountain Grass April 2013

Strange that I havnt updated the fountain glass for 2 years. Its struggling on both sides now. and I dont really have any direct photos of it on the worst side, just a picture of the lemon tree where you can see the remains of the grass in the bacground. However, each site is sort of replacable with other plants that are large enough in theory when they mature to take over those spots. By the chimney one clump has almost died away whilst on the other both clumps are barely surviving.

Fountain Grass April 2011

With it being April 2011 that makes it 14 months they have been in. The main challenge has been them being swamped by weeds. The photos below show February 2010 when both sides of the house were first done and April 2011.

One of the photos is really of the Foxtail Palm but you can see the April 2011 Fountain Grass in the bottom right. Wikipedia calls Fountain Grass Pennisetum setaceum and says that it is native to open, scrubby habitats, is drought-tolerant and grows fast. Well, we'll see. If you do a google image search for Fountain Grass it does show a nice bit clump and if you imagine that in place in the above images it would work, but currently they dont really look like much at all. I guess i'll have to see what summer brings.
