Floss Silk Tree

Went past a garage sale today (August 2011) and saw some random plants inlcuding two plants I had not seen before, turns out it was a Floss Silk Tree. Must admit, when I got back and looked it up I was pretty excited!!!ome random plants inlcuding two plants I had not seen before, turns out it was a Floss Silk Tree. Floss Silk Tree August 2013

Well, from an armour plated stick to fully filled tree in 4 months is incredible. This is a real fact grower. I wonder how much more it will grow at this rate? All of the horizontal branch work is brand new.

Floss Silk Tree April 2013

Got a shock when I saw this in early April, it was just a stick in the ground, all the leaves had fallen off, but the first thing I noticed was that it wasnt rotten, the bit that died before really rotted away quickly as I think much of this is water. Also, there are buds, so all is well, if an armour plated stick in your garden is what you want in April. Im hoping it will grow a lot in 2013.

Floss Silk Tree October 2012

This has made a startling spurt in growth, especially reassuring after its first dissapointing die off. Not only has it grown really tall but its stem is really thick and spikey. Even in July I was concerned about the joint where the original stem died off and it it would regrow around that but you cant even see it now if you look, its totally grown out.

Floss Silk Tree July 2012

Its made quite a recover. Interesting to see how its recovered from the top rotting as it looked like the rot would takeover the new growth, but it looks the other way and its got a very strong head of groth on it.

Floss Silk Tree February 2012

Not looking good for the winter but it has some new spikes so maybe in the summer it will really come back?

Floss Silk Tree November 2011

The top has died off of this but it looks to be hangining in there with some new growth. However, the bark looks a bit rotten down stem of that new growth which is a bit of a concern.

Floss Silk Tree

Apparently they have spiky trunks and red blossoms.
